We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Attorney specializing in Global Privacy and other Commercial and/or Corporate legal matters to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have in-house experience advising sales, product management, development teams, and internal operation functions on global privacy regulations and Commercial/Corporate legal matters. This experience should preferably be from a global company that offers hardware, software, and cloud-based services. The candidate should possess a deep understanding of global privacy laws and regulations and should be adept at handling European commercial or corporate matters.

 

This role involves providing comprehensive legal support and strategic advice to our commercial operations across various jurisdictions. The successful candidate will report directly to the Associate General Counsel in Europe and work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure legal compliance and promote best practices within the organization. Working alongside other in-house legal personnel and outside legal counsel.

 

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with global privacy laws and regulations (such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data protection laws).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies and procedures.
  • Advise on best practices for data protection and privacy management in relation to hardware, software and cloud-based services.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and data protection evaluations in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to data protection and privacy compliance.
  • Provide training and support to internal sales, product management, product development teams and internal operation functions on privacy matters, promoting awareness and understanding of relevant legal requirements.
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and other legal documents, including non-disclosure agreements, consulting agreements, procurement agreements, sales agreements, and technology licensing and service agreements.
  • Provide expert legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, partnerships, and service agreements.
  • Advising business leaders and functional divisions (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Finance, HR & Administration) with legal advice on general matters and corporate compliance issues impacting the Company’s operations.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel on complex legal issues and international transactions as needed.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide strategic advice on mitigating legal and privacy risks associated with business operations.
  • Keep abreast of evolving legal and regulatory developments in the commercial and privacy sectors, ensuring the organization's policies are up-to-date and effectively communicated.
  • Support a culture of ethics and compliance within the company, fostering a proactive approach to legal and privacy challenges.

Note: The position is based in in Germany, or the UK, and will involve infrequent travel, including travel to other company locations in the EMEA region and to the US headquarter in Niles, Illinois, USA.

 

Qualifications

  • German or other EU or UK lawyer with five plus (5+) years’ post qualification experience, preferably in a corporate or law firm setting, with a focus on global privacy and commercial/corporate transactions.
  • Demonstrable expertise in international privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Candidate should be self-motivated, results-driven, detail-oriented and have good interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office suite;
  • Fluency in English
  • Advanced knowledge in other European languages is an advantage.
  • Good business acumen and ability to closely collaborate with various divisions are important drivers for success in this role.
