Shure offers a challenging, fun and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve-week program is offered to undergraduate students that have completed at least 2 years of college, as well as graduate students. We offer internships with a variety of work arrangements from onsite interns to fully remote in US. Each intern will receive a competitive salary. Additionally, Interns who relocate to Illinois for onsite internships will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses. Applications will be collected, reviewed, and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

 

The Shure Strategic Technology Team is looking for a Data Science and Audio DSP Intern to help research, develop, and test advanced conferencing features enabled by machine learning and digital signal processing principles. You will contribute to the data science group with AI-assisted enhancements for our audio processing modules, such as noise reduction, source separation, dereverberation, and beamforming. The project may target devices such as conference call systems, work-from-home systems, headphones, microphones, and more.

This Internship is Onsite or Hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with data scientists and DSP engineers to identify use cases of value that leverage machine learning for applications in audio or joint audio/video.
  • Research, build, and train, deep learning models.
  • Provide demonstrations of the concept, design, and results to peers and stakeholders.
  • Document all design, experiments, and results.

Qualifications

  • In process of Master’s in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field with an emphasis in Data Science or Digital Signal Processing.
  • Good knowledge of digital signal processing fundamentals, discrete time-frequency transform, adaptive digital signal processing, optimization algorithms, and/or audio signal perception.
  • Experience in application of machine learning to audio/speech enhancement, classification/separation, multi-channel audio signal processing, and/or effective feature extractions to simplify front-end processing.
  • Experience in building a hybrid audio system with both advanced AI network and classical DSP algorithms to maximize the performance under certain constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with Python’s scientific libraries (NumPy, spicy, matplotlib, etc.), common linear algebra operations, and deep learning models in frameworks such as TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
  • Experience in fundamental acoustics, and/or sound perception is a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
