As a Commodity Manager at Shure, you will be responsible for providing leadership to drive component technology roadmaps and strategic changes to meet Shure’s technical requirements. You will also manage components through their entire life cycle from New Product Introduction/Development to End of Life / Last Time Buy. You will work closely with design engineering/product teams, operations engineering, quality, supply management, component suppliers, distributors and Contract Electronics Manufacturers to provide leadership and support to validate the selection and use of components to ensure compliance to the published strategies. The goal is to achieve best in class quality, competitive costs, consistent on-time delivery and time to market for Shure products.

 

This position can be 80% remote, 20% onsite from the immaculate Niles, IL Headquarters! 

Responsibilities

  • Support production continuity by expediting components, locating spot buys, working with engineers on redesigns, and other activities.
  • Monitor the active component market closely to proactively mitigate any supply risk and provide updates to the organization.
  • Develop component roadmaps, drive component selection and development processes as the subject matter expert. Drive roadmap alignment between commodity components and system products.
  • Lead the cross functional commodity team to drive and implement commodity strategies and optimize supplier performance.
  • Identify alternate component sources for risk management/mitigation, reduced cost and/or improved quality/reliability and implement changes when appropriate.
  • Monitor industry trends, benchmark the best practices and provide competitive information to Shure teams and management on a regular basis.
  • Influence and guide engineering teams in early phases of product conception to align with business requirements and commodity technology strategies and roadmaps through regular BOM reviews.
  • Develop guidelines/procedures on component vendor selection.
  • Conducts spend analysis
  • Responsible for the lead role in negotiating, communicating and enforcing compliance of Shure contract pricing for our CEMs for Shure identified OEMs.
  • Manages the supplier relationship for the established commodities.
  • Conducts supplier business reviews.
  • Serves as the Sourcing lead for active component related LTB/EOL issues. This includes, but is not limited to, negotiation of any agreements, coordinating communication to the CEMs and tracking of inventories.
  • Support NPI and sustaining engineering in qualification and failure analysis to address component related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • 20 - 30% global travel (when the world goes back to "normal")

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS degree in Business or Supply Chain Management (or related field) with at least 7 years hands-on, demonstrated industry experience in component engineering or sourcing. Engineering experience a plus.
  • Sourcing experience in working directly with distributors and/or OEMs to negotiate contract pricing to be used across multiple CEM suppliers.
  • Extensive experience in electronic & semiconductor components.
  • Experience and knowledge in PCBA manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Strong data analysis capability.
  • Some level of business process expertise, Six Sigma Black Belt certified not required, but a minimum working knowledge of lean and six sigma concepts.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience of working on EOL/LTB discussions and conducting the associated analysis.
  • Strong technical background in component engineering is essential, with extensive experience in interfacing with product design, NPI, supply management, suppliers and OEMs to achieve results.
  • Knowledge of component-to-system interactions
  • Must be hard working, self-motivated, disciplined, detail and results oriented.
  • Strong leadership and problem solving skills with proven track record to meet deliverables and project deadlines
