    Reporting to the Manager of Product Validation and Reliability, the Engineer Sr. Reliability and Product Quality Testing, under minimal supervision, provides Reliability Engineering services to the Product Development and Quality Divisions at Shure. Maintains reliability tests, test equipment, and test procedures. Identifies gaps in our testing methods, and develops new tests to support long term reliability of our new and existing products.  Drives test equipment procurement, modification, and retirement as appropriate. Responsible for understanding, documenting, and articulating how Shure’s reliability tests correlate to customer product use in the field. Assist with the training and development of lower-level Engineers and Technicians.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and maintain the product quality assurance tests, protocols, and methods used to validate finished products, sub-assemblies, and components.
    • Understand intended and expected use of new products as well as engineering-design concepts and expectations, in order to advice in appropriate product validation testing.  Develops new tests based on those requirements and expectations, as needed.
    • Identify lab equipment needs. Recommend equipment and manufacturers. Provide equipment financial justifications. Procure, establish, and retire equipment as appropriate.
    • Understand, document, and articulate the correlation between reliability tests and customer use cases and product life expectancy.
    • Conduct correlation studies on reliability tests to insure that the relationship between tests and actual field use are well-understood. 
    • Conduct studies to insure that tests are repeatable and reproducible.
    • Interact with customer listening posts such as the Service Dept., Product Applications, Product Marketing, etc., to understand field failure issues and trends.
    • Perform failure analysis and identify root causes of non-conforming product and system deficiencies, and recommends corrective actions when necessary.
    • Participate in benchmarking of industry best practices in reliability engineering and adoption of these best practices at Shure.
    • Ensure that all new products are in compliance with both Shure quality standards and applicable government regulations.
    • Conduct research to evaluate quality standards and procedures to ensure their effectiveness. Insures that established processes and procedures are followed.
    • Lead implementation of quality tools and techniques to assure ongoing process performance, including analysis of ongoing process capabilities and proposing process improvements.
    • Provide Request for Engineering Test (RFET), Quality Problem Report (QPR), and Product Audit services.
    • Provide training, guidance, and support to Quality Engineering and Lab Technicians on the use of reliability principles and test procedure execution.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other applicable technical Bachelor’s degree.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Reliability Engineer, using reliability/quality tools, such as, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments  (DOE), Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) and Weibull Analysis.
    • ASQ Certification as a Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) is preferred.
    • Significant experience in using MS Excel, MS Access, Reliasoft, and Minitab to store, process, analyze, and report data.
    • Very strong data analysis/statistical skills. Ability to detect changes and trends and determine their importance.
    • Three to five years of experience in the basic use of audio, acoustical, and RF principles is preferred.
    • Able to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data or situations require evaluation of identifiable factors.
    • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions for difficult and diverse assignments.
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and customers to resolve technical issues.
    • Three to five years of experience in the use of problem solving techniques.
